The events that took place immediately following Autumn’s attempted suicide and the revelation that she was pregnant with Finny’s child are described in Chapter 39 of If He Had Been With Me. She realizes she will become a mother when she wakes up in the hospital and finds strength in Finny’s desire for their child to live. She also starts reuniting with people who have been there for her during this trying time, like Finny’s mother, who helps her get ready to raise the child.
